How To Make A Watermelon Cake, According To TikTok

Another random Tuesday, another random TikTok discovery. And this time, it involves watermelon. Yep! The delicious, juicy and seeded fruit that tastes best during the summertime. Especially when it’s coated in coconut flakes and berries…

Hold up, what?

A-huh, we’ve just come across a watermelon cake. I repeat, a watermelon cake. And it’s all thanks to TikTok, specifically Shelby Snyder on TikTok.

Posted three days ago, Shelby’s video has racked up a whopping 2.4 million views (and counting), along with 259,000 likes and over 2000 comments.

The video starts by showing Shelby preparing the watermelon, and chopping it into her desired shape (a cake shape). Once chopped, she pats the watermelon dry using a paper towel to soak up the moisture from the outside. As you can imagine, watermelons are very juicy, so she went in a handful of times to dry.

Once she’s done drying, she uses Cool Whip (an American imitation of whipped cream, so if you’re in the UK, you can just used whipped cream) to coat the watermelon, as if it’s buttercream. She uses both her hands and a palette knife to do this.

After that, she sprinkles coconut flakes over the entire ‘cake.’ And finishes by decorating with berries, and leaves in the fridge to set.

And there you have it, an actual watermelon cake.
